HE Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Abbas Hajj Hassan stressed the capability of the State of Qatar to make a genuine difference in all agricultural fields to achieve food security, which comes at the forefront of strategic priorities for all countries of the world.

In his remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the opening of the 10th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), His Excellency said that this exhibition comes within the State of Qatar’s future vision and strategy to achieve self-sufficiency, particularly in light of the threats that face achieving food security in several countries around the world.

HE the Lebanese Minister of Agriculture praised Qatar’s efforts to increase local production, raise self-sufficiency, and achieve Qatar’s food security according to best practices and the latest agricultural technologies, stressing the keenness of the Republic of Lebanon and its interest in promoting its collaborative relationship with the State of Qatar in all fields.

HE Abbas Hajj Hassan noted the Lebanese participation in the AgriteQ with 14 companies, expressing his hope to increase the level of participation in the Expo 2023 Doha, which will be distinguished and pioneering. His Excellency indicated that the Qatari officials have a great responsibility to make a great success of that significant exhibition, especially after the State of Qatar’s dazzling success in hosting and organizing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

His Excellency noted the opening of Qatar’s markets to Lebanese products, stressing the Lebanese government’s commitment to safely delivering Lebanese food products to various consumers around the world, pointing out the competitiveness and high quality of the food product. (QNA)

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) affirmed keenness on enhancing scientific and research cooperation with Qatar University by supporting researchers, publishing their scientific works and encouraging student exchange. It noted the great role played by the ISESCO Chair in Alliance of Civilizations at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University in promoting scientific research on tolerance and peace-building, and promoting the values of coexistence and civilized dialogue.

During his meeting today at the organization’s headquarters in Rabat with Director General of ISESCO Chair in Alliance of Civilizations Dr. Ezz El Din Maamish, Director General of ISESCO Dr. Salem bin Mohammed Al Malik valued the role played by the chair and its various publications and achievements, stressing the importance of cooperation between the organization and universities through the establishment of scientific chairs, with the aim of exchanging experiences and expertise and benefiting from the creativity and innovations in university institutions.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Maamish said that the meeting discussed cooperation between QU College of Sharia and Islamic Studies and the organization through the ISESCO Chair in Alliance of Civilizations in various fields agreed upon especially the Encyclopedia of Occidentalism project and the Qatar Global Award For Dialogue Among Civilizations, encouraging scientific research and student exchange in the field of the chair’s specialization, organizing conferences, seminars and workshops, and expanding the scope of the cultural and intellectual influence of the Encyclopedia of Occidentalism. HE Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) said that 96 percent of visitors and fans of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 would like to visit Qatar a second time, noting that the World Cup broke the region’s stereotype and that Qatar showed good hospitality to the fans.

His Excellency was speaking at a panel discussion in the Global Security Forum taking place in Doha and said that they conducted a survey that showed that 96 percent of the fans would like to visit Qatar another time.

He noted that the celebrating the organization of the World Cup for the first time in an Arab country and its accompanying cultural events helped present a wonderful image of the region, pointing out that some fans see that the celebration of this tournament is more like a celebration of the countries of the south than anything else.

He stressed that the distinguished organization of the championship showed the ability of the State of Qatar to host a world-class event without any fears and in safety and peace, as the fans came and celebrated their cultures and felt comfortable, pointing out that sporting events and meetings bring people together and enhance the power of audience participation and therefore are a source of change.

He added that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will have great, long-term impact. He noted that sports is a platform that offers peoples a chance to coexist.

His Excellency praised the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 organizing team, describing the team as professional, passionate, and dedicated to presenting the best World Cup edition. He added that they gained a unique experience in hosting major events, something that will prove beneficial in the future.

He also noted that they can share their expertise with the US, Canada, and Mexico, who will host the 2026 edition, highlighting that there is a wealth of expertise that can be built upon as the country looks to host Asian Cup 2024 ad other event. He added that there is a great team that works on determining the events.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced a new joint national initiative to support local meat production and support prices during Ramadan. The initiative is in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food. It will start Saturday and will last until the end of Ramadan.

The Ministry said in a statement that the initiative comes to ensure the availability of red meat to citizens during the holy month of Ramadan at reasonable prices, in addition to creating a balance between supply and demand, which contributes to price stability in the markets. The ministry said that it agreed with Widam to provide 30,000 heads of local cattle to sell at low prices for citizens (two sheep per citizen). They have to present their ID Widam’s salughter houses in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakra and Al Sheehaniya, or through the company’s app. Each sheep’s weight ranges from 30-35 and will cost QR 900.

The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), represented by the National Campaign for the Conservation and Efficient Use of Water and Electricity in Qatar (Tarsheed), announced the launch of 11 competitions locally and globally, aiming at encouraging the adoption of procedures and practices to support environmental sustainability and rationalize energy and water consumption.

KAHRAMAA said in a statement today that Tarsheed started receiving participation requests of all categories, from individuals, as well as the government and private sectors.

Participation requests will continue until April 10, on the Tarsheed Competitions page on KAHRAMAA’s official website: km.qa/tarsheed The Corporation announced three international competitions and another eight local ones, covering a wide range of specializations and categories, including an award for TARSHEED Conserving Building, aiming to raise awareness of the concept of rational building and introducing the benefits of applying sound practices to rationalize electricity and water in construction, motivating subscribers to adopt rationalization practices in the construction market.

Concerned about the State of Qatar’s water security, participants will compete for the Best Water Recycling Initiative, aiming to conserve water and enhance its efficient use.

In cooperation with KidZania Doha, KAHRAMAA dedicated an award for Best School Project on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, aiming to cooperate with the educational sector, to encourage school students to conduct research to bring about significant and sustainable positive change, as well as raising awareness of the five sustainable development goals and their importance for the future.

In a related context, the Corporation announced an award for Best Graduation Project For Energy Efficiency, aiming to encourage Qatar university students to take an interest in energy efficiency issues, particularly among engineering students. Additionally, there is an award for Best District Cooling System Performance, aiming to encourage best practices, innovations, and solutions to increase the value and effectiveness of district cooling systems.

Another competition is dedicated to Best Sustainable Building Design to raise awareness of the concept of guided building design among individuals, consulting offices, and contracting companies.

Among the competitions, is one for the Best Smart Application in the field of Sustainability, in which tech developers will compete to create high-quality applications that provide services related to energy efficiency or even entertainment applications serving that purpose.

TARSHEED Competition For the Best Innovative Idea in Energy Efficiency aims to support creativity and innovative thinking in coming up with ideas for innovative and executable projects of added value to energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric vehicles or environmental sustainability.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, this years competitions include a competition for Best Sustainable Camping Facility, aiming to encourage energy efficiency and rationalization methods in camping and estates.

The Best Building Retrofitting Competition aims to update already existing buildings’ tools to ensure energy rationalization and usage efficient, in keeping with sustainable development standards and conditions.

Additionally, the Highest Electric Vehicle User competition aims to motivate Qatari society to use electric vehicles in order to ensure carbon emissions reduction and to raise awareness of the existence of Tarsheed electric charging stations that are to become widespread in all corners of the State of Qatar.

These competitions are part of KAHRAMAA’s great efforts to achieve environmental sustainability in a translation of Qatar’s sustainable environmental development endeavors, in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Qatar National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE).
