Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian, described “the actions of some haters of Islam and Muslims, such as tearing up or burning the Book of God Almighty,’ as reflecting ‘malicious intentions to ignite the fire of sedition.” He said: “Condemnation is no longer sufficient with these people who provoke the feelings of Muslims and therefore, decisive action should be taken against all those who offend Islam and Muslims.’ Derian added, “The countries in which such reprehensible acts are held have a flimsy pretext, and if there is no accountability or punishment for the perpetrators, this abnormal phenomenon will not stop, and its consequences will not be benign nor sound.”
