EMBASSIES OF MIKTA IN LEBANON HOLD SEMINAR ON WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY

The Embassies of MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Trkiye, and Australia) to Lebanon announced the successful holding of a MIKTA seminar on Women, peace and security at Al-Bustan Hotel on the 28th of May 2024.

The seminar featured presentations by four distinguished women from various agencies and backgrounds, highlighting the crucial work of their respective organizations in advancing the Women Peace and Security agendas in Lebanon. The presenters included Ms. Maud Ropars, UNIFIL Deputy Chief of Civil Affairs, Brigadier General Marwa Saoud, Head of the Lebanese Armed Forces Gender Department, Mrs. Randa Abboud Secretary of the National Commission for Lebanese Women and Ms. Gielan Elmessiri UN Women representative in Lebanon.

The seminar delved into focus points that are considered crucial by MIKTA countries such as the importance of gender equality in peacebuilding efforts in Lebanon, the role of women in conflict prevention and resolution, the challenges faced by women in conflict zones, and the need for g
reater inclusion of women in decision-making processes related to peace and security. The presentations provided valuable insights and perspectives on how women can contribute to building sustainable peace and security in Lebanon and beyond.

The seminar was attended by ambassadors, representatives of embassies in Beirut, and relevant stakeholders, fostering a rich exchange of thoughts and discussions, underscoring MIKTA’s collective commitment to advancing Women Peace and Security efforts in Lebanon.

MIKTA – a grouping of Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Trkiye and Australia – was established as a cross-regional grouping of G20 member nations in 2013, with the idea of bridging divides between developed and developing nations and building consensus on issues of relevance to all regions.
