Floods in Germany’s Bavaria Disrupt European Parliament Elections

General

The recent floods in Germany’s state of Bavaria have affected voters for the European Parliament elections, with a number of polling stations forced to relocate and reports of lost voting documents.

Bavaria’s state election officer, Thomas G ssl, said that town halls were not yet usable in some affected regions, which is why provisional municipal administrations have been set up. However, conversations with election officers in these areas have shown that the election can be conducted properly.

According to G ssl, voters who have lost their voting documents due to the floods or have not received them should contact their local authority promptly to request and collect new documents.

The European Parliament elections are expected to see nearly 400 million people in the 27 member states of the European Union casting their votes over four days.

Voting will take place in all 27 EU member states to elect 720 members of the European Parliament.

Polling stations opened in the Netherlands Thursday, and Ireland i
s set to vote on Friday, followed by Latvia, Malta and Slovakia on Saturday. The Czech Republic and Italy will vote over two days on the 7th and 8th of June, while the rest of the European Union countries will hold elections next Sunday.
