Former President of Peru in Jail for Corruption Charges

Authorities in Peru announced that former president Alejandro Toledo was in prison for corruption, after he was extradited by the United States.

The Peruvian Ministry of Justice said that the former president will be in temporary prison for 18 months. He will stay in the same prison that kept the two other former Peruvian Presidents Pedro Castillo and Alberto Fujimori.

In 2019, the former president was arrested in the United States for alleged corruption in Peru. He was then placed under house arrest at his home in California until he was extradited.
