Marrakech – HM the King’s international Initiative to Enhance Atlantic Ocean Access for Sahel Countries is a powerful lever to transform Sahel economies and promote their integration into global economy, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, said Saturday in Marrakech.

“Beyond the expression of an active solidarity, this initiative is a call to recognize the rights and values of landlocked countries in the global economy’, the head of Burkinabe diplomacy underlined during the Ministerial Coordination Meeting on HM the King’s Initiative to Enhance Atlantic Ocean Access for Sahel Countries.

‘Burkina Faso welcomes any initiative aimed at transforming its continentality into an asset, because it is clear that our countries have remained impoverished for a long time due to inappropriate policies,’ he said, noting that HM the King’s initiative is perfectly in line with the ambition of Sahel States to build on their enormous potential by
minimizing the burden of isolation through an effective and growth-enhancing infrastructural integration policy.

Highlighting the importance of this Royal Initiative, the Burkinabe minister pointed out that Sahel countries will endeavor ‘to appropriate it and to succeed in this large-scale project’.

Initiated by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, this meeting is also attended by Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, and Director General of Africa and African Integration at the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation, Abakar Kourma.

Of regional and international scope, the Royal Initiative was unveiled in HM the King’s Address to the Nation during the 48th anniversary of the Green March. This Royal Initiative is part of the continued efforts made by the Kingdom of M
orocco, under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, for a prosperous Africa.

It presents unprecedented opportunities to tailor solutions, fostering regional integration, economic transformation in these partner countries, and an improved quality of life for the Sahel-Saharan population. This approach, rooted in innovation and integration, aims to promote stability and security in the region.
