Iraqi President, OIC Secretary-General Discuss Regional, International Issues

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid met on Monday with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussein Ibrahim Taha who is visiting Iraq.

They discussed avenues to reinforce relations between Iraq and OIC, along with several regional and international issues, and the role undertaken by OIC to bolster joint Islamic action.

Rashid praised OIC’s efforts in handling the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia, crimes of burning copies of the Holy Qur’an and OICs initiatives towards them, expressing his support to convene an Islamic conference to further discuss acts that besmirch Islam, in addition to taking serious steps to show the world countries a clear image that the Islamic religion entirely distances itself from terrorism.

For his part, Taha affirmed OIC’s keenness to strengthen relationship and coordination with Iraq in issues of shared interest.
