Kallas urges parliament members not to vote for retirement age extension law

Government

Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, George Kallas, appealed to the heads and members of the parliamentary blocs and MPs ‘to accord attention to the future of young people and not deprive them of the opportunities to join the state and engage in administrative institutions.’

Kallas said he was not in favor of extending the retirement age for employees, regardless of their rank and under any pretext, for any proposal to extend the retirement age will deprive employees who are still in service of promotion opportunities.

He underlined the necessity of opening employment fields to the young to limit immigration and bring new blood into state administration, calling on young people to “join the army and the military, security and administrative corps, and to demand their right to serve the nation.”

Kallas cautioned against wide administrative vacuums if the government does not discuss this matter, ‘which may lead to aggravation of the administrative situation in state institutions.’
