LARGE AMMO CACHE FOUND BY ALGERIAN ARMY

ALGIERS, A large cache of ammunition has been discovered by a detachment of Algeria’s National People’s Army (ANP) during a patrol conducted near the border in In Guezzam in the southern Algerian province of Tamanrasset.

The National Defence Ministry said in a statement here Tuesday that as part of the fight against terrorism and through the exploitation of intelligence, a detachment of the Army found in In Guezzam on Monday a cache containing up to 2,600 bullets of different calibres.

The statement also disclosed that as part of the fight against organized crime, units of border guards arrested, in western Bechar province a drug trafficker in possession of 9.2 kilogrammes of cannabis resin, while units of the National Gendarmerie seized 1,200 units of different drinks in Mascara, 20 quintals of tobacco leaves and 5,000 packets of cigarettes, in El-Oued and Laghouat.

Detachments of the Army and units of the National Gendarmerie intercepted, in separate operations, 26 illegal immigrants of different nationalities in Adrar, Naama and Ghardaia, added the Ministry.
