MARONITE EPARCHY OF AUSTRALIA DENOUNCES WAKELEY CHURCH ATTACK, URGES CALM AND UNITY

In the wake of the recent attack at Christ the Good Shepherd in Wakeley, New South Wales, the Maronite Eparchy of Australia issued a strong denouncement of violence and emphasized the importance of community unity and calm.

The incident has prompted widespread concern and condemnation from the Maronite community. Maronite Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay, speaking on behalf of the Eparchy, expressed deep concern over the violence and urged all members of the community to refrain from engaging in retaliatory behaviors or spreading gossip and speculation.

“We unequivocally denounce violence in all its forms,” stated Bishop Tarabay. “As a community, we must work together to de-escalate tensions and foster peace. I urge everyone to heed the calls of our Governments and NSW Police, exercise prudence, and follow police direction.”

Bishop Tarabay also provided reassurance regarding the condition of Mar Mari Emmanuel and all those injured in the attack, stating that they are in stable condition. He offered prayers f
or their complete healing and recovery and pledged to personally check on their well-being.

Calling for continued prayer for all those impacted by the attack and for the state as a whole, Bishop Tarabay emphasized the importance of actively striving to be peacemakers in these challenging times. He invoked the guidance of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ to inform actions and decisions moving forward.

‘The Maronite Eparchy of Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania stands in solidarity with the Wakeley community and reiterates its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and resilience in the face of adversity,’ the denouncement statement concluded.
