Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Thursday held a number of meetings at the Grand Serail, addressing critical issues involving electricity, justice, and international diplomacy.
Broaching Lebanon’s electricity crisis, Mikati met with Energy and Water Minister, Walid Fayad, Chairman and General Director of the Lebanese Electricity Company, Kamal Hayek, and Prime Minister’s Advisor, former Minister Nicolas Nahas.
Discussions centered on the current state of the electricity sector, increasing power supply, and securing additional fuel from Iraq.
Mikati then met with Justice Minister, Judge Henry Khoury, with whom he reviewed the ministry’s current affairs.
In a series of diplomatic engagements, Prime Minister Mikati received Japanese Ambassador, Magoshi Masayuki.
The pair discussed bilateral relations, with Ambassador Masayuki expressing Japan’s readiness to support Lebanese refugees from the south, through the United Nations programs.
Mikati also met with Indian Ambassador to Lebanon, Muhammad No
or Rahman Sheikh, who outlined India’s development projects in southern Lebanon through its UNIFIL contingent.
Additionally, Mikati held a farewell meeting with Acting Iraqi Ambassador, Amin Al-Nasrawi.
The Prime Minister separately hosted MP Tony Frangieh, and later a delegation of opposition MPs, including Michel Moawad, George Okais, Mark Daou, Michel Douaihy, Adib Abdel Massih, and former Minister Alain Hakim.
Following the meeting, MP Daou addressed the press, condemning the recent Israeli attacks on southern Beirut and expressing solidarity with the victims. “We extend our condolences for the crime committed by the Israeli enemy against victims, including children and women. Any attack on Lebanese soil is an attack on all of us,” Daou said.
The opposition lawmaker praised the efforts of rescue and medical teams and emphasized the need for achieving justice for the August 4 Beirut port explosion, urging accountability.
Moreover, Daou stressed national unity in confronting external threats and urged
swift action from Parliament to ensure stability and security.
