MIKATI MEETS UN UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, UN’S WRONECKA, UNIFIL COMMANDER

Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Tuesday met at the Grand Serail with the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, in the presence of the UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, and the Commander of UNIFIL Forces, Major General Aroldo Lázaro.

Also present at the meeting are the Political advisor Herve Le Coq, and PM Mikati’s advisors Ambassador Boutros Asaker and Ziad Mikati.

Discussions reportedly touched on the developments in south Lebanon and the ongoing efforts to stop the war on Gaza.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Mikati reaffirmed the call on the international community to stop the Israeli aggression. He reiterated, “Lebanon’s readiness to enter into negotiations to achieve a long-term stability process in southern Lebanon and on the northern borders of occupied Palestine, and to adhere to international resolutions, the armistice agreement, and Resolution 1701.”

On the other hand, Premier Mikati held an environmental meeting attended
by Caretaker Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, and State Minister for Administrative Development Affairs, Najla Riachi, as well as the ‘Democratic Gathering’ bloc MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Akram Chehayeb, Hadi Abu Al-Hessen, Wael Abu Faour, Bilal Abdullah, Raji Al-Saad and Faisal Al-Sayegh. Discussions touched on relevant affairs.

Premier Mikati also received MPs Walid Al-Baarini, Ahmed Al-Khair, Abdulaziz Samad and Mohammad Suleiman, with whom he discussed the general situation in addition to the affairs and demands of the Akkar region.

The Prime Minister later received a delegation of Beirut Airport security apparatus officers, headed by Brigadier General Fadi Kfoury, who offered him New Year well-wishes.
