MIKATI MEETS US ENVOY HOCHSTEIN AT GRAND SERAIL

Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Thursday received at the Grand Serail, the Senior Advisor to the US President Amos Hochstein, where they held a closed meeting, followed by a wider meeting attended by Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdullah Bou Habib, the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Lebanon, Amanda Pilz, and the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister’s Advisors: former Minister Nicolas Nahhas, Ambassador Boutros Asaker and Ziad Mikati, as well as Military Advisors Brigadier Generals Riad Chia and Amin Farhat.

During the meeting, the US envoy stressed ‘the necessity of working to calm the situation in southern Lebanon, even if it is not possible to reach a final solution agreement at the present time.’

He also called for working on a temporary solution so that things do not develop for the worse.

In turn, Premier Mikati stressed “that the priority must be to cease fire in Gaza and stop the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the r
epeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty.”

Mikati reiterated: “We want peace and stability through upholding international resolutions.”
