HE Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari participated in the panel discussion entitled “Global Public Debt Sustainability: The Role of Supranational Organizations,” during the second edition of the Financial Sector Conference, held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The panel discussion dealt with the high rates of global debts, the deterioration of public debt sustainability, and the role of national organizations in taming public debt levels.

HE Minister of Finance affirmed that the State of Qatar’s financial policy strongly supports the role of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the G20, the Paris Club, and other international organizations in helping to manage and prevent debt crises.

His Excellency stressed the need to agree on a broader joint framework to handle debts, adding that there was a significant turning point in the GCC states since the fallback of oil prices in 2016 toward medium-term financial planning and more disciplined debt management practices through dedicated entities within finance ministries. These strategies and initiatives have yielded positive results.
