Ministry of Environment Organizes Awareness Program on Importance of Preserving Marine Environment

The Marine Protection Department of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change organized an awareness program on the importance of preserving the marine environment and highlighting the types of pollution it causes as well as the danger posed to wildlife in the State of Qatar.

The program included a workshop to introduce young people to the aquatic life in the State of Qatar and ways to preserve them, through a presentation using virtual reality technology, an awareness about the most important risks facing these species, the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to protect these creatures, and the ways the Ministry confronts those risks.

The workshop introduced youth to one of the most important aquatic life in the State of Qatar, which is the whale shark, as the territorial waters of the State of Qatar witnesses the largest gathering of such fish in the world. The workshop also included an overview of the environmental studies carried out by the Ministry to preserve aquatic organisms and ways to propagate them.

The program also included a cruise to Al-Safliya Island, during which the young people learned about the types of local wild plants that grow on the island and the importance of preserving wild and marine animals in the State of Qatar, which contributes to enriching the local wildlife. This is reflected in the food chain in the local environment, and the trip’s participants carried out a campaign to clean the beach of Al-Safliya Island.
