Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has closed four shops in Al Khisa and Rawdat Al Hamama regions for contravening article No. 6 of the Law No. 8 of 2008, on consumer protection.
In a statement on Monday, MOCI reported that the violations included using and storing expired food products, highlighting that the closure duration ranged between 15 days and one month and entered into force on May 28 until Jun. 26, 2024.
The move came as part of the intensive inspection campaigns conducted by the Ministry to surveil markets and commercial activities in the State of Qatar with the aim of controlling prices and exposing abuses, as well as counterfeit and traditional commodities that do not comply with the standard specifications.
MOCI confirmed that it would decisively confront every single entity that does not live up to its obligations as stipulated in the Law No. 8 of 2008, on consumer protection and its executive regulation, pointing out that it would mount the inspection campaigns to expose vi
olators of ministerial laws and decisions and refer them to the competent authorities for further action accordingly.
The ministry urged all citizens and residents to report any violations through the call center 16001 and MOCI’s account on social media platforms.
