NATO Secretary General Announces 40 Billion Euros worth of Military Aid to Ukraine

Brussels, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg has announced the provision of military aid to Ukraine worth 40 billion euros ($43 billion) next year.

The NATO Secretary-General said, in a press conference Friday, that the allies agreed on this financial pledge for next year as a “minimum” to meet Ukraine’s needs in its defense against Russia.

NATO leaders will meet in Washington next week to celebrate the alliance’s 75th anniversary and send a message of support to Ukraine.

This pledge of 40 billion euros is not the multi-year financial commitment to support Ukraine that Stoltenberg wanted the allies to agree on, as the alliance will review military aid next year.

In mid-June, NATO member states agreed to a plan that includes security assistance and a training mission to Ukraine, during a NATO meeting in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
