Qatar Partakes in 59th Meeting of Senior Arab Officials Committee on Nuclear Weapons Issues

The State of Qatar participated in the 59th meeting of the Senior Arab Officials Committee on Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.

HE Director of the International Organizations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri chaired the State of Qatar’s delegation to the meeting.

The meeting discussed several issues of interest to Arab countries in the field of arms control and disarmament, including Arab preparation for the 67th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in September and the preparation for Arab participation in the first Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), a statement by the Arab League’s General Secretariat said on Tuesday.

The meeting also discussed developments of the conference on “establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East” and the dangers of the Iranian Bushehr nuclear reactor. It touched on strengthening cooperation in the field of cybersecurity and information and communication technology security within the framework of international security.
