Qatar Participates in Arab Leage Meeting of Permanent Representatives and Senior Officials Ahead of Arab Foreign Affair Ministers’ Meeting and 33rd Arab Summit

The State of Qatar participated on Monday in the meeting of permanent representatives and senior officials of Arab countries ahead of the preparatory meeting of the Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs before the 33rd Arab Summit, to be held in Bahrain on Thursday.

HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the Arab League Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.

The Undersecretary of the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa chaired the meeting, following the handover of the Arab Summit’s presidency by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Arab League Ambassador Abdulaziz Al Matar.

The meeting discussed the drafts of the 33rd Arab Summit’s agenda and item resolutions, as well as the final communique to be issued by the Arab leaders.

It also addressed various matters related to joint Arab action in the political, economic, social, cultural, and security fields, in addition to Arab cooperation in interna
tional and regional blocs and forums. Moreover, the meeting reviewed the 32nd Arab Summit presidency report on the work of the Follow-up Committee regarding resolution and commitment implementation, along with the Arab League Secretary-General’s report on joint Arab action.

The meeting discussed an item on the Palestinian cause, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the conflict’s developments, including activating the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, support for the State of Palestine’s budget and the Palestinian people’s resilience, as well as monitoring developments related to settlements, the separation wall, prisoners, refugees, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), in addition to development in the occupied territories and the occupied Syrian Golan.

The Arab member state permanent representatives and senior officials further addressed a wide range of topics covering solidarity with Lebanon, developments in Syria, support for peace and d
evelopment in Sudan, developments in Libya and Yemen, supporting Somalia and the Union of the Comoros, the peaceful resolution of the Djibouti-Eritrea border conflict, in addition to international security and peace issues related to the national and water security of Arab states.

They also discussed the 2nd China-Arab Summit in Beijing, establishing an Arab League-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) partnership forum, in addition to endorsing the candidacy of Egypt’s Dr. Khaled El Enany for the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The meeting further addressed economic, social, media, and legal issues, including Arab actions on climate change issues, the amended Arab human rights strategy, Arab national security and counter-terrorism strategy and system, the Arab media strategy, in addition to the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council draft resolutions.
