Qatar Participates in Ordinary Session of Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights in Morocco

The State of Qatar participated in the ordinary session of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights, which kicked off in the city of Skhirat on Monday. Chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco, the session brought together the concerned government agencies in member states, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations with observer status, and the concerned authorities in the joint Arab action system.

HE Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Turki bin Abdulla Al Mahmoud represented the State of Qatar in the session.

This session discussed several topics including the permanent items, at top of which are Israeli violations and racist practices in the occupied Arab territories, ways to address the dilemma of Arab prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons, the bodies of Palestinian and Arab martyrs held by the Israeli occupation authorities in the ‘cemeteries of numbers’, and the Arab Charter on Human Rights.

The session also discussed the guidelines for the implementation of the Arab human rights strategy, and the Arab plan for education in the field of human rights, in addition to reviewing the Arab declaration to end all forms of violence against women and girls, ways to enhance cultural diversity, protect and preserve the institution of family and marriage, and the impact of climate change on human rights.

The Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights is one of the four mechanisms of the Arab human rights system under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, along with the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee, the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee of the Arab Parliament, and the annual conference of those responsible for human rights in the Arab Ministries of Interior.
