Qatar Participates in Second Meeting of Joint US-GCC Working Group to Combat Terrorism

The State of Qatar participated in the second meeting of the joint US-GCC working group to combat terrorism, which was held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in Riyadh.

The State of Qatar’s delegation to the meeting was headed by HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani.

During the meeting, terrorist threats to the Middle East and other regions, including South and Central Asia and Africa, were discussed.

The working group stressed that terrorism is not linked to any religion, culture or ethnic group.

The GCC states and the United States also agreed that reducing the risk of the resurgence of ISIS in Syria and Iraq requires more joint international efforts to ensure practical and sustainable solutions for individuals in camps and detention centers, especially in northeastern Syria, including their safe return to their countries, rehabilitation, reintegration, and prosecution as appropriate.

The GCC countries and the United States also stressed the importance of enhancing joint action to collectively confront terrorist threats, by combating the financing of terrorism and strengthening societal resilience.

The two sides agreed to hold working group meetings to discuss common issues.
