Qatar’s Permanent Mission in Geneva Organizes Side Event on Family Empowerment, Protection

The Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva and Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) organized a side event on family empowerment and protection to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family, on the sidelines of the current 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The event saw the participation of a number of ambassadors, diplomats, employees of international and non-governmental organizations, and international and regional experts.

During the event, participants’ discussions focused on the main role that the family plays in promoting development, cohesion, social integration, and preserving values. They also focused on the strange concepts and patterns that contribute to changing the true and traditional image of the family and threaten its existence.

The discussion also addressed the challenges facing and threatening the family unit, such as climate change and migration, in addition to the negative and positive effects
of new technology, and concluded with the need for joint action and efforts in the field of law and practice to enhance the role of the family and its contribution to the stability and security of society.

During the event, it was announced that the State of Qatar would host an international conference to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the International Year of the Family from Oct. 29-31. The conference will be organized by the DIFI under the title “Family and Contemporary Megatrends.”
