Road Accidents: 19 Killed in Morocco’s Urban Areas Last Week – Police

Nineteen people died and 2,396 were injured, including 87 seriously, in 1,730 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week of April 10 to 16, said Wednesday the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).

These accidents are, among others, due to carelessness of drivers and pedestrians, speeding, failure to respect the right of way, the safety distance, the stop sign and the red light, the change of direction without using the signal and the unauthorized change of direction, explained the DGSN in a statement.

Regarding the control and repression of traffic violations, the security services have issued 34,834 tickets and 6,425 reports to the prosecutor, while 28,409 transactional fines have been collected, said the same source.

The sums collected under these tickets have reached 5,980,075 dirhams, according to the statement, which reports the impounding of 3,767 vehicles, the seizure of 6,425 documents and the withdrawal of 199 vehicles from circulation.
