Somali Army Thwarts Al Shabaab Attack

The Somali army said that its forces foiled an attack by Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab movement in the Makoud region of South West State of Somalia, killing 14 of the attackers.

In a statement on Saturday, an army source said that armed elements tried to launch an attack against a military base in the region, but the armed forces inflicted heavy losses on them, the Somali News Agency reported.

This attack comes at a time when the Somali government has revealed intelligence information that Al Shabaab is regrouping and planning attacks on areas from which its members were recently expelled.
