Rabat – Spain is willing to contribute to developing the Moroccan railway network and sharing its experience with Morocco in this area, Spanish Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Puente Santiago, said Monday in Rabat.
‘Morocco has just launched projects to develop its railway network and Spain aspires to contribute to this project, given its experience in this area,’ Puente Santiago told the press following a working meeting with Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, voicing his country’s readiness to share its experience with Morocco in the field of rail transport.
The Spanish official hailed the “priority and very important” Moroccan-Spanish relationship, adding that the Kingdom represents a great opportunity for the development of the region as a whole, particularly for the European Union.
He also said that he was “very impressed by the development momentum in Morocco, a neighboring and sister country.”
For his part, Abdeljalil underlined that this visit represent
s a suitable opportunity to address issues of common interest. ‘The two parties will work together to develop the high-speed rail network in Morocco and will examine prospects for cooperation in this sector,’ he said.
Highlighting the excellent relations between the two nations, the minister recalled that Spain is Morocco’s first trading partner, calling for close collaboration between the two parties, in accordance with the agreements signed during the previous visit to Morocco by the President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, with a view to developing future projects.
Other topics were also discussed during this meeting, notably Operation Marhaba, road transport and the establishment of an ecological corridor across the Strait of Gibraltar.
