General

Benguerir – Chief of Policy, Legislation and Governance Section within the Urban Practices Branch of UN-Habitat, Remy Sietchiping, praised, Wednesday in Benguerir, the positive indicators in Morocco’s urban planning.

“These indicators are very positive and will ensure a transformation (in this area, editor’s note) which will make it possible to improve the general conditions”, Sietchiping told MAP on the sidelines of his participation in a panel on “Urban Planning Transitions”, held as part of the 4th “Science Week” at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

These indicators are due to capacities and policies geared towards sectors such as energy and water desalination, the official at the Nairobi-based UN agency pointed out.

Cultural aspects and sporting activities which convey a ‘wonderful’ image of the Kingdom are also of great importance, he added.

Calling for consolidating these achievements through multifaceted formulas and stakeholders in order to succeed in the transition process in Morocco, Sietc
hiping underlined the relevance of the choice of ‘transitions’ as the theme of the fourth edition of Science Week.

‘Today we live at the rhythm of transitions that continue over time and we have not yet won the bet, given that it is a process that must always be supported,’ he said.

The fourth edition of the “Science Week”, which is held until February 16, is an opportunity to take stock of the latest developments and scientific knowledge in the field of “transitions” and to draw attention to essential subjects, such as the energy transition as well as economic, financial and climate transitions.
